FAQ Introduction
Every writer receives them. Some of them we ask each other: How do you do—? Do you ever—? But the questions I hear over and over I get to a point with that it's impossible to answer freshly or enthusiastically, and when they're being asked with genuine interest, this is too bad. So I thought I'd answer a few here, I hope sort of once and for all—my once and for all. Other writers' answers would be different. Perhaps my answers will evolve over time. Answering the standard ones is going to take me a while, but I also hope occasionally to put up a few nonstandard questions that readers have asked me, in person or by letter or email, that seem to me particularly odd or interesting. All of this will take time. As I say, these answers are going to be pretty much as comprehensive as I can make them.... So if you don't see the answer you're looking for, you might want to check back later.
